After being made as a separate entity recently, Polestar, which was earlier, part of Volvo, had some itchy hands to try something new. So, the engineers at Polestar took a regular Volvo XC60 T8 edition and managed to pull out an epic 421 HP out of its hybrid mill.
Following their work on Volvo V60, the second generation XC90, the S90 and V90 the previous performance arm of Volvo has managed to grab hold of the Volvo XC60. The Volvo XC60 which has the same powertrain as that of its bigger brother Volvo XC90 has received very similar treatment in terms of power output. The hybrid system inside the XC60 T8 now delivers 421 HP, same as that of the XC90 T8 which had become the most powerful production car from the stables of the Swedish brand.
And as if generating record power is not enough, Polestar modified Volvo XC60 does look sexy too.
Polestar worked in cooperation with Cyan Racing, the motorsport partner of the division, with experience from more than two decades on the track, to transform the “engine performance, throttle response, off-throttle response, gearshift speed and hold, taking the XC60 to a new level of driving pleasure.”
The engineers seem to have focussed on two key areas which alter the characteristics of the vehicle, improved engine performance and a gearbox competent enough to handle the performance. The tuning has resulted in much better power and torque in the mid range of the hybrid unit, quick footed gear shifts and optimised gear ratios to make use of the higher torque and power.
”Our goal is to create usable performance in everyday driving situations for Volvo owners who want an enhanced driving experience,” Henrik Fries, Vice President of R&D at Polesta, described the idea behind the XC60 by Polestar. “The new XC60 has provided us with an excellent base to work on with a dynamic chassis and a state of the art powertrain. With the Polestar optimization, it makes the new Volvo XC60 a true drivers’ car.”
