2017 is the year that’s all about some pretty amazing Sedans. BMW with the 5-series, Volkswagen with its Passat, Hyundai bringing the Verna back out of its grave, Chevrolet with the new compact Essentia, and a few others.
We’ve compiled a list of the most awaited sedans to come out over the course of the year.
Toyota Vios
The Honda City faces major competition from the soon to be released Toyota Vios. Borrowing a few style tips from the larger Vios, it adds in more excitement that the Etios. The spacious interior comes with fun features like climate control, steering-mounted audio controls, and a touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity. Safety will be a major priority for the Vios, with ABS, ESP and airbags being the standard fitment.

Chevrolet Essentia
Chevrolet is following the make-in-India, made-in-India trend with it’s new Essentia. A sub-four-metre compact sedan, the Essentia is based on the next-gen Beat hatchback. Although the concept has compacy dimensions, the showcase tat the 2016 Auto Expo revealed the presence of a spacious interior while pulling off the basic sedan shape. Chevrolet plans on equippibngf the car with a premium leather interior, as well as features like the Mylink infotainment system.

Audi A3 facelift
Audi’s junior sedan will soon be upgraded with additions like sportier bumpers, a bigger hexagonal grille, as well as new A4-like headlamps as an optional add-on made with Audi’s Matrix LED technology. There are speculations that the paddle shifters will be traded in for the new flat-bottom steering and the entirely digital Virtual Cockpit instrument cluster. If the new A4 is not your style, the company has the second-generation S5 Sportback. It comes in a sexier four-door coupe body style while retaining the appeal and practicality of the A4. The currently used 333hp, 3.0-litre V6 will be taken out to make space for a 354hp 3.0-litre turbo-petrol engine.

New Volkswagen Passat
The Passat will be returning to India in an all new version and also come with a plug-in hybrid variant in the Passat GTE. The Passat can be charged with a regular power socket, or by its 156hp 1.4-litre TSI petrol motor. The company will be importing a small batch of the Passat at first. It will be launched in more petrol and diesel powered versions later.

New Hyundai Verna
Hyundai will be replacing its long-time main, the Verna, with a new version.It is longer and wider which leads to expectations about it being more spacious overall. The interior comes with a touchscreen on the centre console, audio and Bluetooth controls mounted on the steering, climate control, as well as push-button start.

New Audi A8
The next-gen A8 is planning on raising the bar for big luxury sedans, especially when it comes to appearance and technology. A large part of its low-slung styling comes from the futuristic Prologue concept. The theme of the car seems to be purely futuristic.The car is likely to be powered by the 4.0-litre V8 and 6.3-litre petrol engines, a 3.0-litre diesel engine, or a 4.0-litre V8 diesel engine with electric supercharging tech and it might even contain a hybrid powertrain.

New BMW 5-Series
The 5-series is one of the soon to come all-new models to join the segment. It is based on an aluminium-intensive construction which makes it around 100kg lighter than the current 5 , adding to the fuel-efficiency.T he rear seats are more spacious. The car is not just more comfortable and luxurious, but it also features autonomous driving aids like steering and lane control assist and crossroads warning. However most of these won’t be offered on Indian models.

New Chevrolet Cruze
The new Cruze is supposed to be leaps ahead of the currently available version. To begin with, the style should be aggressive with a silhouette that’s similar to a coupe and 17 inch alloys that are expected in the India model. Despite being lighter, the company has made it much larger, providing a lot of comfortable interior space. The current 166hp 2.0-litre diesel engine is speculated to be replaced by a more efficient 1.6-litre turbo diesel engine.

Hyundai Ioniq
With the Indian government slowly warming up to hybrids, Hyundai plans on bringing in its eco-friendly Ioniq to the country add it to its list of sedans on sale. The Ioniq is aimed as a rival for Toyot’s Prius and internationally, comes with three options, an all-electric, a regular hybrid and a plug-in hybrid sedans. The Plug in is being considered for India. This lets you use a regular power outlet to charge the car’s batteries. Shorter commutes can let you forego charging altogether. A 105hp 1.6-litre petrol, with a six-speed dual-clutch auto,works alongside the electric motor.
