Tata Motors Reveals Altroz, Altroz EV Premium Hatchback, Buzzard, Buzzard Sport and H2X Concept
This is the 21st year for Tata Motors at the Geneva Motor show and they are doing it in style. The Pune based car maker has revealed not one, not two but three production models and a concept today. The Altroz premium hatchback, Altroz EV, Buzzard Sport SUV, Buzzard SUV and the H2X concept were globally unveiled at their pavilion short while back.
India will see the Altroz Premium Hatchback shortly, Tata Motors had recently christened the 45X concept as the Altroz which is derived from the Albatross bird. The 45X was first showcased as a concept at the 2018 Auto Expo in Delhi. The Altroz will be the first car to be designed and developed on the all new Agile Light Flexible Advanced (ALFA) Architecture. This latest architecture from Tata Motors will allow manufacturing of multiple body styles with a choice of powertrains including petrol, diesel and electric for the future.
The Altroz is the second product to be designed under the Impact 2.0 Design language and will be targeted as a Urban car design with greater emphasis on bringing connectivity and everyday mobility together. It is an amalgamation of revolutionary design, advanced technology, class leading connectivity and thrilling performance. With the ALTROZ, Tata Motors will enter the premium hatchback segment in India, in mid-2019.
The ALTROZ EV is the Electric version of the Altroz. There is no official launch time for the EV version of the Altroz. Like the Altroz the EV version also is built on the ALFA Architecture using the Impact 2.0 design language.
Tata Buzzard is the 7 seater version of the Harrier. The name Buzzard is only for the Geneva Motor Show and Tata Motors say that a final name would be given during its final launch. The Buzzard also uses the Impact 2.0 design language like the Harrier and is built on the OMEGA platform which is based on the D8 architecture which is also used by the Land Rover Freelander and Discovery Sport. The Buzzard comes with full sized 18 inch wheels and a upside opening tailgate. The third row quarter glass is the biggest differentiating element between the Buzzard and the Harrier. The roofline also goes on till the end unlike the one on the Harrier which slopes towards the tailgate. In terms on dimensions the 7 seater Buzzard is a good 62mm longer in length as compared to the 5 seater Harrier.
All the goodies seen on the Harrier would be found on the Buzzard which includes an 8.8 inch touch screen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Mirror Link, 7.1 inch color screen as the instrument cluster, AC vents in all the three rows. Safety features like Hill Hold assist, parking camera with sensors, brake assist, 6- airbags, traction control, ABS with EBD to name a few.
Powering the 7 seater Buzzard will be the 2.0L Kryotec diesel engine which also powers the Harrier, here it will be tuned to hit out 170PS or power as against 140PS on the Harrier. Transmission options include 6-speed manual gearbox and also a 6-speed torque convertor automatic option.
The Buzzard Sport is the Harrier for Europe. The Buzzard Sport shares all the technicalities with the Indian Harrier.
Tata Motors also revealed a all new concept the H2X micro SUV. The styling on the H2X concept looks inspired from the H5X concept which later became the Harrier. The front strikes out with the LED DRLs and tri-arrow pattern design lines on the bumper. The edges look catchy and different with flat upright styling giving the H2X a boxy look.
The H2X is also designed on Tata’s Impact Design 2.0 Language and Tata Motors say that the final product will have performance, future-ready connectivity and outstanding interior room. The H2X will be built on the ALFA modular platform that it will share with the Tata Altroz. The final production version of the H2X is expected to be revealed at the 2020 Auto Expo which will rival with the likes of the Mahindra KUV1OO.
