Rexton SUV internationally launched, expected in India soon

Barely a week ago, Mahindra and Mahindra subsidiary, SsangYong had teased the new next-gen Rexton SUV. The company has finally internationally revealed the Rexton, right before its public debut at the soon to come 2017 Seoul Motor Show.

When it comes to style, the brand new SUV seems to share quite a bit with the design of the LIV-2 concept released earlier. However, there are distinct changes in the front with a revised version of the bumper, with headlamps and black body cladding, replacing the body-coloured cladding of the original concept. Another noticeable change to the exterior of the Rexton is the company’s logo, which seems to be much more angular compared to the logos on other SsangYong cars. Although, there has been no news about whether the logo has now been changed to this for the entire line-up of the company.

The interior is almost identical with the design of the concept, apart from the cabin which was originally all-white. It has been replaced with a black and brown dual-tone finish. The dashboard contains a mixed variation of elements, with a wood-finish strip designating the passenger side, and a diamond patterned leather strip that runs down the length of the unit, adding a spark to the design.

The company hasn’t yet revealed the engine details, although it is highly likely it would use powertrains similar to the ones that are in the LIV-2 concept. These would be, a 225hp, 2.0 Litre turbo petrol, and a 181hp, 2.2 litre Diesel.

The Indian launch of the next-gen Rexton is expected by the end of the year, to be available as a new Mahindra. The Indian version would have some tweaks in the design. The design team at Mahindra has been developing a new grille featuring distinctive vertical elements, in order to fit in with the original Mahidnra look. The name would be changed to fit the Mahindra nomenclature, and would be their new range-topping SUV, above the current XUV500.
