Mercedes-Benz has been continually launching it’s latest models in India for quite some time now. It has got the it’s entire line up of AMG 43 series cars in India and is now all set to launch it’s range topping sports car, the AMG GT-R in India. The car will be launched on 21st August and will take on the likes of the Porsche 911 Turbo S. To begin with, the Mercedes-AMG GT-R takes inspiration from the GT3 race car. It has been nicknamed “Car from the green hell” and has been perfected on the North loop section of the Nürburgring. It will be priced around Rs. 2.50 crore when it launches in India later this month.
The Mercedes-AMG GT-R gets a new front grille inspired from the iconic 300SL that raced in the Carrera Panamericana series back in the 1950s. The GT3 roots on the new GT-R are clear thanks to the active diffuser that helps add extra down force at high speeds. The roof is made up of carbon fiber and the exhaust is made of Titanium, while the 20-inch wheels are made up of forged aluminium to offer better rigidity and weight savings.
The Mercedes-AMG GT-R is also the first AMGs to receive rear wheel steering system. The rear wheels can steer up to 1.5 degrees opposite to the front wheels at speeds below 100kmph and in the same direction as the front wheels to offer greater stability during cornering. The suspension too has been heavily reworked and features a double wishbone setup inspired from the GT3 race car. The heart of the car is a 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 (codenamed M177) that develops a whopping 577 HP and 700 Nm. The car can hit 100kmph in just 3.6 seconds and go on to a top speed of 318 kmph. The engine is mated to a 7-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox that drive the rear wheels only. The GT Roadster is powered by the same engine but develops 470 HP and 630 Nm.
