Nissan India today revealed the design approach taken to create its latest B-SUV, the Nissan Magnite Concept, along with the newer design elements of its interiors and exteriors. The newest offering in the Nissan family that will take its global SUV legacy into the future is designed for India and for export countries.
As per Nissan Magniteis a portmanteau of the words “magnetic” and “ignite”. Whereas magnetic highlights the design and the product attributes that will attract customers, ignite emphasizes on the beginning of a new era that Nissan wants to bring in India.
The Magnite is a very important product for Nissan India as it comes when the Japanese company are not at their best in terms of sales recently ans this would be the make or break model for the Yokohama based iconic car maker. Nissan also says that the sub-compact SUV follows in the path trudged by its elder siblings like Patrol, Pathfinder, Armada, X-Trail and Qashqai across the world.
Takumi Yoneyama, Design Manager, Nissan Motor Corporation, said, “The Nissan Magnite Concept embodies Nissan’s spirit in every way. Our design approach was based on the art of sculpting and not just drawing lines on paper. We sculpted a solid and dynamic feel by carving shape from a big, overhanging body. We followed the core of Japanese sense and aesthetic by extracting pure dynamism and shedding the unnecessary. We are proud to introduce our newest creation and we hope that our customers in India will love it.”
Rakesh Srivastava, Managing Director, Nissan Motor India, said, “The Nissan Magnite Concept is designed in Japan while keeping in mind the requirements and aspirations of the Indian customers. The front section and the grill frame feature a vertical motion to enhance rigidness. In contrast, very sleek and sharp LED Head lamps and L-shape Daytime running light create a strong impression. This dynamic combination gives the car a confident and bold look; special tinted red color adds further depth and makes it look solid and vibrant.”
The Nissan Magnite will take on the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV3OO, Hyundai Venue and the upcoming Kia Sonet.
In terms of looks the Nissan Magnite Concept that was unveiled looks extremely sporty with a dominating front grille, sharp headlights with catchy inverted boomerang shaped DRLs that extend themselves into the bumper. The Nissan Magnite uses the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s CMF-A platform. The SUV also sports a floating roof-line styling along with all LED tail lights and muscular wheel arches with faux cladding. The front and the rear bumpers come with heavy looking faux metal skid plates while the alloys come with diamond cut finish on them. The roof sports metal finish roof rails and the boot-lid comes with a neat looking spoiler.
Nissan has not shown any images of the interiors of the Magnite but rest assured it would be well appointed and loaded with all the latest tech gadgets on its feature list. The Sub-4 meter SUV will come with a 360 degree camera, 8-inch AVN touchscreen infotainment system with all the connectivity options. Nissan has also not revealed any technical details for the engine options on the Magnite but it is sure that the SUV will only come powered with a Petrol engine option due to Nissan’s petrol only strategy for India. We expect the 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that makes 90bhp and about 160Nm to power the Magnite. Transmission options would mostly include a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed CVT automatic unit.
