Nissan has unveiled their latest All Electric Crossover the Ariya at the Nissan headquarters in Yokohama Japan. Nissan has been a leader in Electric vehicles since long with their Leaf EV that has been kind of a benchmark in terms of Electric cars. As for the Nissan Ariya Nissan clams a overall range of around 483kms on one charge for the EV. Nissan will start commercial sales for the Ariya in Japan starting 2021 and other markets later. The Ariya is priced at around USD 40,000 which is around Rs. 30 Lakh.
Nissan had first unveiled the Ariya as a concept vehicle last year when Carlos Ghosn was the head of the Renault-Nissan Alliance. The Ariya now becomes the first major new product to be launched post the Ghosn era for the Japanese company and helping it get a fresh start. As per Nissan the new electric crossover serves as a “key milestone” in the company’s four-year plan “to achieve sustainable growth, financial stability and profitability.”
The Nissan Ariya’s latest drivetrain is what really makes it different from the Leaf. The Nissan Ariya will come in multiple drive configurations, which include a two-wheel-drive version and a twin electric motor setup that makes it a all-wheel drive Electric Vehicle, Nissan is calling the “e-4ORCE”.
There will also be two battery sizes to choose from — a 63 kWh battery and a 87 kWh one. Nissan claims the two-wheel-drive version will be able to achieve up to 483kms of driving range. Nissan has not yet revealed the actual charge time taken to charge the Ariya.
The Nissan Ariya comes loaded with some of the latest cutting edge advanced driver assistance system from the Japanese car maker with the ProPilot Assist 2.0 automates drive system that can partially vehicle control speed, distance from other cars autonomously also keeping the car in the intended lane with minimal input from the driver. Cameras detect lane markings at highway speeds, and then adaptive cruise control, lane-keep, and blind spot detection systems keep you in that lane until you deliberately change lanes.
The updated ProPilot system on the Nissan Ariya, comes with active driver monitoring system to enable hands-free driving on highways. Nissan first announced its plans to upgrade ProPilot Assist to allow for hands-free driving last year.
In terms of design and styling the Nissan Ariya looks sporty, edgy and futuristic. The EV Crossover has a wide stance and looks pleasing to the eyes with ultra slim headlights and tail lights and a solid faux grille giving it that distinctive look. The photos that Nissan has shared to the Press shows the Ariya in copper paint shade but we are also told the EV Crossover will also be available in Candy Red and Deep Blue shades.
In terms of the interiors the Nissan Ariya gets a clean looking dashboard in dualtone finish. You also get a 12.3 inch one behind the steering as the instrument cluster and other in the center of the dash for the AVN unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto loaded. The upholstery is in all black while the steering gets leather wrapping and all the MFD control buttons on it. The cabin seems a lot roomy with tons of legroom and headroom
