The next generation BMW 5-Series Gran Turismo has been spied testing out in the wild. It is expected to be launched at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show.
BMW would be soon launching the 5-series sedan later this year hopefully at the 2016 Paris Motor Show in October. But now pictures of the new 5-series Gran Turismo (GT) have cropped up which could also be introduced in the Indian market. The 5-series will be available in a total of three body shapes which also includes an estate which wont be sold in India due to buyer preferences. The next generation 5-series GT will be based on the new CLAR modular platform which will make it up to 100 kilos lighter than the current car. The 2017 GT will have a design influenced by the upcoming 5-series sedan with cues taken from the 2013 Gran Lusso concept.
The 5-series GT will be powered by a new range of turbocharged 4-cylinder engines in both petrol and diesel guise. It will be also offered with 6-cylinder engines with the option of a hybrid powertrain in international markets. On the inside, the 5-series GT will offer more room at the rear than its sedan counterpart. Expect a huge step up in quality but a familiar dashboard layout. It will also get the next generation of the iDrive system with better connectivity options than the current car.
On the safety front, the 5-series GT will come loaded with features like Blind Spot Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control and semi autonomous features. The 5-series sedan will get a sporty top of the line M5 variant that will be powered by a 4.4-litre V8 that develops power in excess of 600 BHP. This particular model will be launched late next year following the launch of the 5-series GT.
