Phew! BMW is clearly on a role here. Barely a day after the BMW 8-Series Concept was revealed by the German marquee in Italy, BMW has once again taken its followers by surprise. The German auto muscle has revealed a prototype of its upcoming performance model M8 at the weekend’s Nurburgring 24 Hours racing.
While BMW has still not revealed details of its upcoming launch M8, we have confirmed reports coming stating that the launch of M8 is just around the corner. Though the camouflaged body of the M8 did not reveal much about the vehicle design nor the mill under the hood, the visitors to the weekend Nurburgring racing were treated to the sound of the exhaust of what hears pretty much like a ferocious angry beast.
A video of the soon to be launched M8 roaring away to glory has been posted on Youtube. Captured on the sidelines of the Nurburgring, the clip shows the vehicle happily revved by a BMW engineer. The exhaust pops and crackles just the way we like to from a proper sports Coupe. In fact, it makes the current generation of M8 sound rather tame and that is really something. But, it is also possible that the model once reaching the final production stage may get its exhaust sound tweaked a bit for all practical purposes.
For all we know, the all new BMW M8 might come powered by the brand’s much familiar 4.4 liter twin turbocharged V8 which is found in the current gen M5 where it is tuned to produce in excess of 600 hp. If that is the case, we can also expect BMW’s proprietary all-wheel drive system to make it to the new gen M8 with greater bias towards the rear wheels. This all new M8 should make the competition against the BMW’s rival Mercedes AMG S63 Coupe very interesting.
Discussing the car at its ‘Green Hell’ launch, BMW M boss Frank Van Meel said “The future BMW M8 will build on the genes of the 8 Series and augment its DNA with added track ability and generous extra portions of dynamic sharpness, precision and agility. It all flows into a driving experience that bears the familiar BMW M hallmarks and satisfies our customers’ most exacting requirements.”
