Japanese automobile manufacturer, Isuzu is known for its presence in the commercial vehicle, utility vehicle and diesel engine sectors. The company is on its way to debut in the premium SUV segment with the MU-X, on 11th May 2017 in India. It should pose as a competitor to those such as the Toyota Fortuner and the Ford Endeavour that are currently at the top in the Indian market.
Based on the pictures that have turned up, the MU-X is pretty identical to the D-Max Cross pick-up with similar styling. The front fascia is almost the same, although, the cab is extended in order to over the flat bed of the pick-up and it also has a third row of seats with added creature comforts. The styling in the rear, however, is more or less unique, with split horizontal tail lamps, as well as a new bumper. The cabin of the SUV is the same as that of the V-Cross, and matches the Chevrolet Trailblazer too, which has identical underpinnings.
What’s surprising is that the company isn’t hitting India with just a single model, but with multiple versions of the MU-X. The original model to be launched would be a 4×4 MT and AT followed by the 4×2 models in the future. The Indian version of the MU-X is to have the 3.0 litre engine and the company is presumed to follow up by bringing in the much cheaper 150hp 1.9-litre engine later this year.
The MU-X will be assembled locally at the Sri City plant in Andhra Pradesh. A face-lifted version of the MU-X was recently unveiled internationally but only the original car will hit the Indian markets. The new model will come soon after.
Some dealers have already started accepting bookings for the Isuzu MU-X. The deliveries are being promised to happen sometime soon after the car is launched in the market.
