MG Motors Plans Big for India, to Launch Compact SUV Next Year
MG Motors has announced its India plans at a press conference in Mumbai today. The iconic British car maker Morris Garages which is now fully owned by SAIC Motor Corporation Limited China has taken over the Halol plant from General Motors India.
SAIC the parent company for MG Motors is the 7th largest auto maker in the world and rules 23% of the auto market of China. MG Motors India was formed in February 2017 and in September the same year the Halol plant was taken over. MG Motors is currently completely overhauling the Halol plant as per its requirement and needs. The company has also planned to invest Rs. 5,000 Crores in its India operations of which Rs. 2,000 Crores has already been committed to the Gujarat Government.
The Make in India 1st product would be a Compact SUV rolling out of Halol in 2019. The company has not disclosed any more info on the model other than saying it would be loaded with features and would be value for money. Thereafter the company plans to introduce at least one new car model every year to its lineup. MG Motors India has already 1,40,000 Fan on their Facebook page which should help them is creating hype for the brands entry into India.
The company is also ready with their range of Green Energy Vehicles from Hybrids to PHEV to Electric Vehicles and Connected Cars that they have globally. The British car maker is currently finalizing its dealer appointments for which they have received nearly 2000 registrations across the country.

Mr. P Balendran Executive Director MG Motors India who has been an old guard of the Industry said that the company was more than serious with its product strategy for India and that the products would carry 80% localization from day one. He also added that the company is building its team at Halol and at their Corporate headquarters in Gurugram with young and dynamic people coming from the various industries. The Halol Plant is being totally rewamped with New Press Shop, New Paint Shop, New Body Shop, appointing new vendors and so on.
