The Mercedes Benz X-Class is the company’s first lifestyle oriented pick-up truck ever.
Mercedes Benz has just unveiled the X-Class pickup truck. The concept was showcased in October last year where it received loads of attention. The company has now launched the production version in the Germany starting at a price of 37,294 Euro. The Mercedes Benz X-Class is based on a Nissan Navara pick up. The styling is typically Mercedes Benz with the large front grille with the 3-pointed star and black cladding and skid plates for a tough look. The side styling is pretty plain while the rear gets styling that is inspired from the concept. The Mercedes Benz X-Class will be offered in 3 variants – Pure, Progressive and Power.
The Mercedes Benz X-Class will be available with a wide range of engine options. The base variants will be powered by a 163 HP diesel engine in the X220d form, while the X250d gets a 190 HP diesel powerplant. There will also be a 160 HP petrol variant on sale. A 258 HP diesel is said to join the army at a later stage. The engines will either be mated to a 6-speed manual or 2 variations of the 7-speed gearbox. The company is also offering lower variants with a rear wheel drive layout with higher variants getting an all wheel drive system. A permanent 4-wheel drive system will join the line up at a later stage. The X-Class also comes loaded with safety tech like lane-keep assist, active emergency braking, traffic sign recognition, and a 360-degree camera.
On the insides, the Mercedes Benz X-Class has a proper Mercedes feel. It comes with a familiar looking steering wheel and instrument cluster. It gets 4 AC vents in the centre of the dashboard, a design element taken from last year’s concept. The interiors are lined in ARTICO leather and there are wood trims on offer as well. The flat bed on the pick up is quite generous thanks to its underpinnings and also gets a 12V power outlet amongst other features like tailgate that opens 90 degrees or 180 degrees. It has been offered in as many as 9 colour options and a option of 17-, 18- and 19-inch alloy wheels. We do not expect the Mercedes Benz X-Class to make it India anytime soon.
