Maruti Suzuki has launched its newly developed Diesel engine on the Ciaz. This all new 1.5L DDiS 225 Diesel engine is developed in-house by Maruti Suzuki. With this Maruti Suzuki now has the 1.5L K15 Petrol and 1.5L DDiS 225 Diesel engine on its lineup. The Ciaz becomes the first car model from the lineup to get this all new engine. Mates to this engine is an all new 6-speed manual transmission that the company has also launched. It may be recalled that Maruti Suzuki were using the Fiat sourced 1.3L Diesel engines before this making this a very interesting and important development from Maruti Suzuki.
Maruti Suzuki claims that the new Diesel engine offers improved performance, best in class fuel efficiency, enhanced torque and power with refined NVH performance to thrill customers seeking higher performance cars.
The 1.5L DDiS 225 Diesel engine has 94Hp of power at 4000rpm and hits out 225Nm of torque between 1500-2500rpm. The turbocharged engine generates higher low end torque through optimization which should help driving in traffic conditions. Maruti Suzuki claims a fuel efficiency of 26.82kmpl on this all new engine.
Other unique features of the engine include the use of Dual Mass Flywheel (DMF) along with optimiz compression ratio that reduces engine fluctuations & contributes to superior NVH performance, thereby giving a comfortable driving experience. Use light-weight aluminium casted cylinder head and block along with optimized engine calibration contributes to improved fuel efficiency.
The new 6-speed manual transmission, mated to the DDiS 225 engine completes the powertrain package. As per Maruti Suzuki this new transmission ensures a smooth drive and light gear shift feel. For the ease of driving and manoeuvrability, position of reverse gear is relocated next to 1st gear to reduce hand motion during tight parking conditions.
The Ciaz is now available with 1.5 litre capacity in both petrol K15 and diesel DDiS 225 engine options.
Prices for the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz 1.5L Diesel start at ₹ 9.97Lakh for the Delta trim, the Zeta trim is priced at ₹11.08 Lakh while the top end Alpha trim is priced at ₹11.37Lakh Ex Delhi.
