Maruti Baleno crosses 2 lakhs sales milestone, Alto continues its domination

Both the Maruti Baleno and new Alto 800 have been the bestselling cars in the respective segments.

Maruti Suzuki, India’s top car manufacturer announced that its premium hatchback the Baleno has crossed the 2 lakh sales milestone. The Baleno was launched in October 2015 and has been averaging 10,000 units on a monthly basis since then. The Maruti Baleno in fact had achieved 1 lakh sales milestone within a year of its launch making it the bestselling premium hatchback of India. It is one of the first cars in India to come with Apple Car Play and safety features like ABS and 2 airbags as standard across all variants. Maruti also launched a sportier version of the hatchback in the form of the Baleno RS recently to cater to the hot hatch buyers in the country.

Maruti Baleno is made in India for India and for the rest of the world. It is being exported to over 100 countries and is the first car from Maruti Suzuki being exported to Japan under Government’s “Make in India” mission. The car has been a performer even on the export front. Over 64,000 units of Baleno have been exported across the world including Japan, Australia, New Zealand and several parts of Europe and Latin America.

On the other end of the hatchback spectrum is the Alto, which is continually dominating its segment with a sales of over 1 lakh units already in the first five months of 2017. The company sold a total of 1,07,557 units in the first 5 months which is much higher than its closest segment rival. Maruti’s unmatched service network is one of the reason why even young first time buyers are putting their money on the Alto. According to the survey, more than 30 percent of Alto buyers are below the age of 30 years. The Alto is availabe with 2 engine options – 0.8-litre petrol with a 5-speed manual gearbox and 1.0-litre petrol with AGS automatic transmission.
