Mercedes-Benz India’s Numero Uno Luxury car maker has launched the latest generation of the GLE SUV in India . This is the fourth-generation GLE globally. Mercedes has launched the LWB (Long Wheel Base) version of the GLE in India. The new Mercedes-Benz LWB GLE 300 d is priced at INR 73.70 lakh, and the LWB GLE 400 d (hip-hop variant) is priced at INR 1.25 crores (all prices are ex-showroom, India)
Mercedes had first unveiled the 4th Generation GLE at the 2018 Paris Motor Show. In terms of exterior styling the New Mercedes GLE looks not very different from the outgoing model but now feels a lot more premium and also comes packed with loads of extra features in it. The 2020 Mercedes GLE gets a striking face that reminds of the heavy duty Mercedes X-Class pickup truck. The front features an octagonal grille along with a thick chrome plated skid plate along with a strong character line flowing on the bonnet.
The 2020 Mercedes GLE also comes with new design wing mirrors while the wheelbase also gets longer by 80 mm. Buyers can choose from two wheel size options ranging from 18-22 inches. The rear profile also gets totally redone featuring all new design LED taillamps, revised tailgate, and a new rear bumper with the horizontal chrome-tipped exhaust on either end that adds a lot of appeal to the boot section.
In terms of interiors the 2020 Mercedes GLE gets a lot more larger and spacious cabin due to the extended wheelbase. The GLE now has 69 mm more of legroom for second-row passengers. The 2020 GLE comes with an updated and more premium looking dashboard that reminds of the cluster seen on the S-Class. The 2020 GLE also gets the latest generation 12.3-inch touchscreen unit similar to the latest E-Class, S-Class and the G-Class. The GLE also comes equipped with full LED heads-up display and the latest MBUX infotainment system.
The 2020 Mercedes GLE also comes loaded with advanced safety features like the E-Active body control is an advanced suspension system, Active Stop-and-Go semi-autonomous feature that helps the driver in stop and go bumper to bumper traffic conditions when under 60 kmph speeds.l, Active Brake Assist that can apply the brakes of the car when it detects collision situations with head on traffic on single lane roads.
The GLE will be equipped with two diesel engine options. The OM 654 four-cylinder diesel engine comes with 180 kW (245 hp) and 500 Nm of torque on the GLE 300 d 4MATIC and the OM 656 six-cylinder diesel engine comes with 243 kW (330 hp) and 700 Nm of torque in the GLE 400 d 4MATIC (hip-hop variant). A petrol engine might be announced soon.
The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE rivals the German competitors namely the BMW X5 and the Audi Q5, Porsche Macan, along with the Volvo XC60 and the Jaguar F-Pace in its segment.
