LIVE! Mercedes Benz E220d LWB launched in India at Rs. 57.14 lakhs

The Mercedes Benz E220d will sit right in between the E200 and the E350d, and will compete with the likes of the BMW 520d, Volvo S90 and Audi A6.

Mercedes Benz India launched the all new E-Class in February this year with two engine options – a 4-cylinder petrol and a V6 diesel. The 4-cylinder diesel engine that was available in the previous generation car was sadly not available at launch. The company though has launched the all new E-Class LWB with a brand new 2.0-litre 4-cylinder diesel engine in the E220d guise. This variant replaces the E250d model from the previous generation. This engine belongs to the brand new family of in-line 4- and in-line 6-cylinder petrol and diesel engines that the company unveiled last year. The company has also invested heavily in bringing in new technology to assemble this engine in India like Electronic Torqueing, Oil Spray nozzle position checking through optical camera, liquid sealant application system etc.

The Mercedes Benz E220d is powered by a 1950cc 4-cylinder motor that develops 190 HP and 400 Nm of max power and torque. This puts its exactly among its competition like the Volvo S90, Jaguar XF and the upcoming BMW 5-series. The engine is mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox that drives the rear wheels only. The luxury sedan gets features like LED projector headlamps with claw-like LED DRLs, Stardust LED taillights, large panoramic sunroof and new pattern 17-inch alloy wheels. Rest of the design is similar to the E350d and alooy wheels and the badge at the rear are the only differentiators on this particular model.

The Mercedes Benz E220d gets the same lavish interior as the E350d. The dashboard is characterized by the 4 AC vents on the centre console, a large 12.3-inch infotainment display, the multifunction steering wheel with touch controls, non-digital instrument cluster and the up to 64 colours for the mood lighting. The Mercedes Benz E220d is also available with the optional Chauffeur Package that adds electric reclining rear seats, controls for the panoramic sunroof from the rear and soft alcantara headrests. Other features include a 13 speaker Burmester Audio system, 360-degree camera and Park Pilot. The company is also promising a low maintenance package with its Star Ease service.
