LIVE! Mercedes AMG GTR and GT Roadster launched in India

The Mercedes-AMG GT-R sits above the AMG GT-S and is powered by a monster 577 HP 4.0-litre motor. The GT Roadster on the other hand is the open top version of the AMG GT sportscar.

Mercedes Benz India has yet again brought one of its latest models to India. The Mercedes AMG GTR has been launched in India at a staggering Rs. 2.23 crore while the drop top version of the AMG GT, the AMG GT Roadster has been priced at Rs. 2.19 crore ex-showroom, India. The Mercedes AMG GTR takes inspiration from the GT3 race car. It has been nicknamed “Beast from the Green Hell” and perfected on the North loop section of the Nurburgring.

The heart of the car is a 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 (codenamed M177) that develops a whopping 577 HP and 700 Nm. The car can hit 100kmph in just 3.6 seconds and go on to a top speed of 318 kmph. The engine is mated to a 7-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox that drive the rear wheels only. The GT Roadster is powered by the same engine but develops 470 HP and 630 Nm. The Mercedes-AMG GT-R is also the first AMGs to receive rear wheel steering system. The rear wheels can steer up to 1.5 degrees opposite to the front wheels at speeds below 100kmph and in the same direction as the front wheels to offer greater stability during cornering. The suspension too has been heavily reworked and features a double wishbone setup inspired from the GT3 race car.

The Mercedes-AMG GT-R gets a new front grille inspired from the iconic 300SL that raced in the Carrera Panamericana series back in the 1950s. The GT3 roots on the new GT-R are clear thanks to the active diffuser that helps add extra down force at high speeds. The roof is made up of carbon fiber and the exhaust is made of Titanium, while the 20-inch wheels are made up of forged aluminium to offer better rigidity and weight savings. The GT Roadster is offered with 3 choices of soft top roofs.
