LIVE! Maruti Suzuki Ignis Revealed in Delhi
The Maruti Suzuki Ignis will sit below the Baleno and be sold via the NEXA dealerships. It will come with a whole load of customization options and is targeted at the millennials.
Maruti Suzuki’s long awaited hatchback, Ignis has been finally unveiled in Delhi. The company has announced that it will be launching the car at an EDM concert on the 13th January 2017. Yes, we finally have a date to its launch. The Maruti Suzuki Ignis is interestingly styled and gets a crossover like styling. It is based on an all new platform and has been targeted squarely at the age group of less than 29 years. The car has been positioned as a perfect vehicle for millennial buyers, rather than a cliche family car.
The Maruti Suzuki Ignis looks like nothing else on the market, and follows a rather unconventional design language. So you get an upright cabin forward stance with loads of detailing on the front. There are LED projector headlights on offer surrounded by LED DRLs and look as a part of the front grille. The grille in fact extends till the outer edges and is lined with chrome all around. There are chrome lined fog lamps too. The lower part of the bumper has a clean look as the number plate is located on the central air dam, rather than above it. The clamshell hood design and the air vents on the sides enhance its styling further.
The sides again point out to a boxy design but there is a whole load of detailing that takes stage here. The Ignis gets sculpted body panels with flared wheel arches that house 15-inch alloy wheels. These have a trapezoidal design with glossy black detailing and come with 175/65-section tyres. The car gets a uniquely styled rear quarter with a kickback design and a distinct looking C-pillar. The rear gets LED taillights, while there is black cladding all around the car. Maruti Suzuki will also be offering dual tone exterior paint options, with a white or black contrasting roof.
The progressive design language is carried on the insides too. So you get a floating layered dual tone dashboard with a cockpit style instrument cluster and a central infotainment display. It also comes with toggle type switches for the HVAC controls which feels premium and unique. The tab like 7-inch display on the dashboard supports features like Bluetooth, Android Auto, Apple Car Play and Mirror Link. The AC vents pop out from the dashboard and look sporty with faux carbon fibre inserts.
The Maruti Suzuki Ignis will share its drivetrain options with the Baleno, which was a no-brainer. So on offer will be a 1.2-litre K-series petrol with 83 HP on tap and a 1.3-litre diesel that develops 74 HP. Both will come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, but its also confirmed that the Ignis will receive an AMT automatic variant with both petrol and diesel engine options. The Maruti Suzuki Ignis will also get ABS, 2 airbags, ISOFIX seats and seat belts with pretensioners as standard safety kit across all variants.
Maruti Suzuki is also offering quite a lot of personalisation options with the Ignis. Customers can choose from various chrome bits like the above mentioned fog lamp bezels, or a variety of seat covers. The company will also be offering customised wraps for the exteriors which was unheard from any manufacturer in India. The car will be open for bookings from the first week of January, from the company’s official NEXA website. The punchline for the Maruti Suzuki Ignis is “Nothing Like Anything Else On The Road”, and going by the looks of it, the company definitely has another winner on its hand, but only if priced right, which of course Maruti has a habit of nailing everytime.
