LIVE – Mahindra Launches the All New Thar at a wow price of Rs. 9.80 Lakh
Mahindra has launched the All New Thar with prices starting at Rs. 9.80 Lakh. The Thar would easily be one of the most awaited and anticipated launches of 2020 and rightly so.
The All New Thar is available in six body colour options including Red Rage, Mystic Copper, Galaxy Grey, Napoli Black, Rocky Beige and Aquamarine. Today also happens to be the Founders day for Mahindra.
Bookings for the All New Thar have also officially opened from today across Mahindra dealerships and Online too. It garnered a huge response from fans and lovers right since it was unveiled on the Independence Day August 15th. We were also one of the first few Auto Journos to drive the All New Thar at the Special Independence Drive that was on the same day. The All New Mahindra Thar is available with two engine options, you have the 2.2L BS-6 Turbo Diesel mHawk 130 unit that makes 130hp and 300Nm of torque. For petrol lovers you have the 2.0L BS-6 mStallion 150 motor that makes 150hp of power and 320Nm of torque. Both the engine have been developed in house in India by Mahindra. Transmission options to go with these engine include a 6-speed manual and also a 6-speed Torque Converter Automatic option.
The All New Thar is available in three trims namely the AX, AX (Option) and LX with the AX being the Adventure trim with a convertible top and the LX being the Lifestyle trim getting a hard top that can also be removed when needed being the top end fully loaded model.
The new Mahindra Thar AX variant comes with six-seat setup (two forward and four side-facing), 16-inch white steel wheels, steel footsteps, mechanical locking differential power steering, power windows, dual airbags, ABS with EBD, central locking and rear parking assist as standard. The optional pack under the variant gets a convertible top or hard-top, front-facing rear seats with roll-cage and Isofix child seat anchorages, height-adjustable driver seat and remote keyless entry (for hard-top version only).
The Thar AX(O) or Option trim gets forward facing rear seats, option of soft or hard top, remote keyless entry,
The LX variant which is the top of the line trim of the 2nd generation Mahindra Thar gets all the features of the AX variant and also the option convertible-top or hard-top option, four-seat setup, dual-tone bumpers, moulded foot-steps, 18-inch alloy wheels, LED DRLs, LED fog lights, height and lumbar adjustment for the front seats, seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system, TFT MID screen, customizable adventure gauges, ESP and brake locking differential.
Other features that the All New Thar LX trim gets is Silver grille finish, follow me home headlamp, radio antenna on the fender, rear glass defogger, steering mounted MFD buttons, color multi info display, tyre direction monitor etc.
In terms of the exteriors the New Thar regains the Boxy true blue iconic Jeep like overall silhouette and stance. The SUV gets a much wider profile giving it that brute look. The Thar also gets the latest tech, convenience and styling features on it which include LED DRL, LED Tail Lamps, 7 inch touch screen AVN system, Apple CarPlay compatibility, customizable gauges and adventure stats in AVN, roof mounted weatherproof speakers, IP54 rated weather proof switches, tyre pressure monitor, compass, all new instrument cluster with digital screen, sports washable seats, washable floor with drain plugs to name few.
In terms of safety the All New Mahindra Thar gets dual airbags, 3 point seat belts, crash safety complaint structure, ESP with roll over mitigation, Hill hold control, hill descent control, ISOFIX child seats anchors, Tyre pressure monitor etc.
The Thar drives on Standard 245/75 R16 Tyres or optional 255/65 R18 Tyres With 789 mm Tyre Diameter. The SUV has a water wading ability of 650mm and a ground clearance of 266mm with the 18 inch wheels. The SUV has an 41.8˚ as its Approach Angle, and 36.8˚Departure Angle with 27˚ Break Over Angles With R18 Wheel And Tyre Combination.
For the off-roading gadgetry the All New Thar comes with 4W Drive With 4-High And 4-Low Range, Electromechanical Driveline Disconnect (Front Axle), Mechanical Locking Rear Differential (MLD), Brake Locking Differential (BLD) On Front and Rear Axle to name a few.
