LIVE – Kia Sonet Globally Premiered, Bookings to open soon
The Sonet in its Concept form was the show stopper at the 2020 Auto Expo. Now in its final production ready avatar the Sonet Compact SUV is all ready and it stays true to the concept form. The Sonet has been inspired by the baby Elephant. On the outside the first thing you notice is the sheer size of the Sonet. The face gets the Kia trademark Tiger nose grille with step mesh design inspired by the Chand Baori stepwell from Rajasthan.
The flushed headlamps come with unique crown jewel styling and integrated signature DRL’s in them. The front bumpers also get faux aluminium skid plates along with neat looking round projector fog lamps with chrome inserts around them. The GTLine trim that we saw also gets front parking sensors.
The side profile on the Sonet looks powerful and is highlighted with aluminium roof rails, chrome door handles, fiber wheel cladding around the fenders and running board. The highlight design element on the side profile is the unique insert that mates the sides to the tail gate finished in piano black. The Sonet drives on progressive design 16 inches diamond cut alloys with the GT Line getting the brake calipers finished red.
The rear profile on the Sonet like the front end is in its own league. The styling here includes Trademark Kia heartbeat LED Tail lamps that is uniquely designed. A slim reflector connects them that also houses the rear view camera. The rear windshield is placed at an angle thus extending the boot capacity. The rear bumper gets faux aluminium skid plates with piano black inserts and reflectors on it. You also get a body colored spoiler and the shark fin antenna on the package.
Stepping inside the GTLine Sonet you are welcomed with an all black premium looking cabin area. The dash board comes vertical styled Ac vents like on the Seltos and also the identical 10.25 inch infotainment touchscreen loaded with all the needed apps and connectivity features . The instrument cluster is an 4.2 inch digital screen.
The leather wrapped flat bottom steering comes with manual adjust only for height. The climate control comes with inbuilt smart air purifier and freshener and also India’s 1st virus protection capability. The audio system is powered by Bose 7-speaker premium unit with a sub-woofer.
The Sonet comes with front ventilated seats which are wrapped in leather upholstery and also sport the GT badge for this trim. Rear seats come with two adjustable headrests and a foldable armrest. The rear passengers also get dedicated air con vents with air quality index display and a USB port with a small compartment to place the smartphone while charge. Adding to the premium feel is the electric sunroof and the soft touch padding on the door panels. The Sonet also boasts of a large capacity boot space.
The Kia Sonet comes with three engine options which include the 1.0L 3-cylinder turbo petrol, 1.2L 4-cylinder petrol and the 1.5L 4-cylinder Diesel units. Transmission options include the 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual, 7-DCT, an automatic, and the 6-speed clutch less intelligent manual transmission (IMT). Kia Motors will launch the Sonet just in time for the festive season with bookings opening before that.
Kia Motors will manufacture the Sonet at their Anantpur plant in Andhra Pradesh for India and the world markets. The Kia Sonet takes on the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport, Mahindra XUV 3OO and also the upcoming Nissan Magnite in the Compact SUV segment.
