Earlier, while few spy shots of the soon to be launched Volvo XC40 crossover SUV from the Swedish brand were caught and posted online, the interiors of the middle of the range SUV still remained a mystery. Now thanks to Carscoops, we are able to get you clear interior pics of the XC40.
The pics reveal how you would feel once you get inside the XC40. The cabin looks to have a clean and straightforward design keeping in line with the usual Volvo offerings. The driver is greeted by a three spoke steering wheel with thumb contours. A Tesla like touchscreen infotainment display with portrait orientation can also be seen and the screen looks big enough for everyday usage. The air vents found in the SUV are also vertical but albeit a touch smaller in size than the ones seen in its bigger brother XC 60.
By the looks of it, though the dashboard design feels simple and easy to use, it also gives a sensation of slightly lesser premium feel than Volvo’s other bigger siblings. This model particularly goes competing against the likes of Audi Q3, BMW X1 and Mercedes Benz GLA which are entry level models from the German marquee brands to step into the small premium crossover segment.
Also, the spy pics do reveal that the rear window design is more or less same as the one seen in the XC40 Concept. Though the upward kink at the rear does look fresh from a design perspective we also feel that it might compromise on the visibility and airiness feel of the rear seat passengers.
The Volvo XC 40 is based on the Swedish manufacturer’s latest Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) platform. This platform is particularly used in other 40 series cars too from Volvo and its Chinese owner Lynk & Co. As far as the powertrain is concerned, the Volvo XC 40 is expected to be plonked with a new 1.5 liter three-cylinder unit, in both petrol and diesel iterations along with a hybrid plug-in planned later on.
The XC 40 Volvo SUV is expected to be launched later this year with the examples reaching the showrooms not later than late 2017 or early 2018.
