The second month of the new fiscal has brought in positive feedback from the Indian car buying scenes. Here are how the top manufacturers fared in the month of May 2016 in terms of sales and overall growth.
Maruti Suzuki took the top spot with a sales figure of 1,23,034 units last month which is a 7.1 percent growth over the same month last year. This includes 9,872 units exported to international markets. Hyundai India on the other hand saw growth of 10.4 percent with a sale of 41,351 units in the month of May. The Korean car maker is seeing a constant surge for the Creta SUV and the Elite i20 hatchback which have been their most popular models in India. Toyota Kirloskar Motor sold a total of 12,200 units in the domestic market thereby registering a growth of 6 percent last month. The company recently launched the Innova Crysta which has got off to a flying start despite the diesel car ban in Delhi and Kerala.
Another Japanese car maker Honda Car India has done respectably well in terms of sales last month. The company sold 9,954 units last month with its best sellers being the City and the Jazz with 3,305 units and 2,473 units respectively. The all new BR-V that was launched last month also got off to a decent start with 2,344 units sold in May 2016. Ford India on the other hand sold 17,279 units last month out of which 5,780 units were sold in India and 11,499 units were exported to international markets.
Renault India which is one of the fastest growing automotive companies in recent times has proved once again that it is worthy of that title. The French car manufacturer sold 8,343 units in the domestic market last month and recorded a staggering growth of 132 percent. The cumulative sales figure for the period Jan-May stands at 50,058 as against 19,006 in the corresponding period last year, thereby registering a growth of 163.4 percent. Mahindra Auto Sector too showed positive growth last month with a growth of 11 percent and sales of 40,656 units compared to 36,706 units during May 2015.
