The Honda SP 160 is a newly launched motorcycle that aims to combine style, comfort, and efficiency in the 150 and the 160 motorcycle segment. In this review, we will discuss its design, engine specs, features, and overall value for money.
Starting with the design, the bike shares the headlight and tank design with its younger sibling, the Honda SP 125, to maintain family characteristics. However, the SP 160 takes it a step further by showcasing a modern and sporty look. Its sharp lines, slightly bulky 12-liter fuel tank, and wraparound fairing give it a distinctive appearance. The addition of LED headlamps and tail lamps further enhance its eye-catching appeal, while the turn indicators still utilize halogen bulbs.
In terms of build quality, the SP 160 exudes sturdiness and durability, which is a testament to Honda’s renowned reputation for producing reliable motorcycles.
Moving on to performance, the Honda SP 160 boasts a powerful 162.71 cc 4-stroke SI engine, equipped with a single-cylinder and PGI FI (Programmed Fuel Injection) technology. This advanced engine ensures a smooth and refined ride, delivering an impressive performance. With a horsepower of 13.27 hp at 7,500 rpm and a torque of 14.58 Nm at 5,500 rpm, we believe that this bike offers ample power for regular urban commuting.
The Honda 160 SP is equipped with a 5-speed gearbox and a Multiplate wet clutch, providing seamless gear shifts and enhanced control. It is worth noting that the gear ratio is the same as the one found in the renowned Honda Unicorn. In terms of weight, the bike weighs 139kg for the first variant and 141kg for the second variant, ensuring a balanced and stable ride.
Furthermore, the Honda SP 160 offers a generous ground clearance of 177mm, allowing for smooth navigation over various terrains. As a rider who stands at 5’7″, I found that I could comfortably place my feet flat on the ground while seated on this motorcycle, enhancing my overall riding experience.
In summary, the Honda SP 160 excels in performance, thanks to its powerful engine, smooth gear transitions, and optimal weight distribution. Its impressive ground clearance and comfortable seating position make it an ideal choice for urban commuting. The Honda SP 160 revolutionizes the way we start our engines, rendering the traditional kickstart obsolete. With a simple press of a switch, riders can effortlessly ignite the engine, experiencing a smooth and noiseless start. This innovative feature not only enhances convenience but also eliminates any unnecessary hassle.
In terms of comfort, the Honda SP 160 offers an upright and comfortable riding position, making it ideal for daily commuting. The telescopic front forks and rear monoshock are well-suited for Indian roads. The Honda SP 160 features 17-inch alloy wheels in the front and rear, along with Single Channel ABS. Additionally, it comes equipped with MRF tubeless tires, with a front tire size of 80/100 and a rear tire size of 130/70.
However, as this is a pre-production model, we noticed that the seat was a bit too stiff and lacked cushioning. Honda will need to address this issue to enhance the overall comfort of the bike.
There are two variants available for the Honda SP 160, with the only distinction being the braking system. The lower variant is equipped with a single front disc brake, while the top-end variant features both front and rear disc brakes. And the 1 present today is the top end variant which has dual disc brakes.
When it comes to features, the SP 160 boasts a state-of-the-art fully digital instrument cluster. This advanced display provides essential information such as speed, fuel level, trip meter, and clock. Additionally, it includes a gear position indicator, enhancing convenience during rides. It is worth noting that while this instrument cluster shares some similarities with the one found on the renowned Bigwing motorcycle, it possesses its own unique design and functionality.
The Honda SP 160 is available in six stunning colors: Matte Dark Blue Metallic, Pearl Spartan Red, Matte Axis Gray Metallic, Pearl Ignite Black, Matte Marvel Blue Metallic, and Pearl Deep Ground Gray. Fortunately, we had the opportunity to review all six colors for you.

Overall, the Honda SP 160 proves to be a solid offering from the Japanese manufacturer. It combines style, performance, and comfort, making it a strong contender in the 150 and 160cc motorcycle segment. With its competitive starting pricing of Rs. 1,17,500 for the single disc and Rs. 1,21,900 for the Dual Disc Model and Honda’s reputation for reliability, the SP 160 offers excellent value for money and is certainly worth considering for buyers in this segment.
