50 new scooters were presented to the female police officers of the Gurugram Police force, by Hero MotoCorp under project Sakhi. Project Sakhi is an initiative to increase and ensure the safety and security of women in the district as well as the entire state. The scooters are to be used by the women of the police force during patrolling, and are equipped with Traffic lights, sirens, and PA systems.

The scooters were handed over to the IPS Commissioner of Police, Gurugram, Sandeep Khirwar, at a ceremony by Vijay Sethi, Head, CSR & CIO of Hero MotoCorp. The ceremony was a precursor to the ‘Citizen Safety Bike Rally’ with over a 100 participating drivers, including the 50 women of the police force, equipped with their new scooters. Messages of Road and Women Safety were spread as the rally rode through several key areas of the city.

Vijay Sethi commented saying, “As the market leader and a responsible corporate citizen, Hero MotoCorp is committed to bringing improvements in our society through various initiatives. Two key areas of focus for Hero have been promoting Road Safety and women empowerment. We have a variety of programs that are running at national and regional levels and some of them are in association with the local police departments. We already have a strong partnership with the Haryana Police, through various initiatives and I’m confident that this new initiative will allow our joint efforts to bring about effective changes.”

This was but one of the many in a series of laudable events and projects by Hero MotoCorp as a part of their road safety and women’s empowerment initiatives. To name a few, Ride Safe India, a CSR initiative to promote road safety, and women’s empowerment projects like Hamari Pari and Educate to Empower. Hero MotoCorp also partnered with Uttarakhand Police to provide 24 two wheelers for Cheeta, their all women first responder system, on this women’s day.
