The Royal Enfield Himalayan story has not been going the way its company had hoped it would. After the initial honeymoon period of sustained demand and plenty of bookings, the owners soon started complaining about various issues which had started plaguing the motorcycle. Though Royal Enfield had been actively ironing out the issues put forth by its owners, the damage has already been done.
The advent of BS4 norms in the country did not help its matter either. As the BS4 norms were enforced across India, Royal Enfield has stopped selling the Himalayan. It had to go back to the drawing board to ensure its engines meet the latest emission norms. And looks like, finally they have.
A Royal Enfield with fuel injection technology has been spotted at a dealership in Kerala. The addition of the fuel injection tech is supposedly to help the bike meet the BS4 norms. The bike is expected to be back on sale across the dealerships across India by mid August.
The images that have surfaced give us a fair idea about the fuel injection components. The system gets a fuel pump sitting below the fuel tank. An oxygen sensor along with a fuel return line has also been spotted beneath it.
Fuel injection is not the only new thing that has happened to the Royal Enfield Himalayan. It has also got some visual changes as evident from the spy pics. These include a new blacked out handle bar clamp, under the seat lock bracket and fuel filler cover. The pic also shows a black protector for the front fender.
The new BS4 engine is basically the carburetted one with the fuel injection tech added. The mill displaces 411cc and is good enough for 24.5 BHP at 6500 rpm and 32 Nm between 4000-4500 rpm. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
