The pickup segment in India is in for a huge boost. Currently the segment is driven mainly by the Isuzu DMax pickups and now we have spotted the Ford Ranger pickup being testing India. From the pics that we received from our avid reader Ankit Patel Ford has been hard testing the face-lifted Ranger around the country and was snapped while it was in Mumbai.
The Ranger pickup is the most affordable pickup truck from Ford’s international lineup of pickups and also one of the one that’s sold in many Asian countries, Australia, Brazil, America, South America and many more Global markets.
Technically the Ford Ranger shares its platform with the Ford Endeavour and also looks like it from the front end and the sides., except for the rear end which is styled for its pickup pedigree. Ford has a 2 door and a 4 door version of the Ranger, the one we spotted was the 4 door version that in other words means a Double Cab variant.
As mentioned the front end looks just like the Endeavour with lots of chrome in the Ford grille with Ford and Ranger branding on it, huge bumper, large sized projector headlamps with DRL, fog lamps integrated into the bumper and a huge bonnet just as the Endeavour.
The Sides get the typical air intakes placed on the fender in chrome just like the Endeavour with 2.2 badge significant to the engine powering the Ranger. Going back you get two doors, on for the drivers cabin and the one behind for the entry to the rear passenger seats. Behind this is the loading area not forgetting the flat glass that kind of acts as the wall between the cabin and the loading area.
The tail lights on the Ranger are large in size going with the vehicle while there also is a centrally mounted stop lamp on the rear windshield. Tyres on the Ranger are 17 inches mounted on silver alloys. The loading door also gets chrome inserts around the handle and a big Ford logo on it.
On the inside the Ranger is pretty nicely loaded very much like the Endeavour. You get leather seats, AVN system with navigation & connectivity options, silver inserts on the interiors around the black styled cabin theme, automatic and manual transmission options, instrument cluster similar to the Endeavour etc.
Engine options on the Ford Ranger include the 2.2L TDCi with 160PS, 2.0L Turbo with 180PS and a 2.2L Bi-Turbo with 213PS of power. Transmission option include 6 speed manual and 6 speed automatic on the TDCi and Turbo while the 2.0L Bi Turbo coming with the 10 speed automatic option. The Ranger is available both as a 2WD and also as a 4X4.
Interestingly even Toyota is rumoured to be getting the Hilux pickup to India which would totally heat up the segment. What also could be speculated is that with the Mahindra Ford tie up in India they could also be evaluating a pickup for India based on the Ranger.
