Nissan India will possibly showcase the Nissan Note E-Power at the upcoming 2018 Delhi Auto Expo.
Nissan India recently has been going under some serious slack due to the lack of new models in India. The company wants to introduce newer models from its global range and hence was speculated to bring in the latest generation Micra to India. But plans might be different by the Japanese carmaker for India as the Nissan Note E-Power that was unveiled globally last year has been spotted in India. The Nissan Note E-Power will be the company’s first range extender vehicle and is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine. The car was also more recently showcased at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show in Japan.
The Nissan Note E-Power borrows technology from the last generation Nissan Leaf. It gets the EM57 electric motor from that EV which has a capacity of 107 HP and 254 Nm. Powering this electric motor is a 1.5kWh battery that is much smaller then that of the Nissan Leaf. The 1.2-litre engine continuously charges this battery that feeds power to the wheels via the electric motor. Hence the throttle is not connected to the engine, but to the battery so it can work as an range extender hybrid. The engine and the battery can also work together to deliver the power in case of higher load conditions. All this and the fact that the car does not need an external plug makes the Note that much suited to Indian conditions.
The Government of India recently announced that it will only allow sale of EVs post 2030. This was a strong statement made by them and this could just be a small first step by Nissan in that direction. The hatchback will be showcased at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo post which it could be announced for sale in India. The current tax structure for hybrids means that the Nissan Note E-Power will be an expensive buy than its competitors. But in return it will deliver some fantastic fuel efficiency figures. The current Note E-Power delivers over 32 kmpl. The latest car from the Nissan stable to receive the E-Power technology is the Serena minivan.
