Bajaj Auto have always been regarded as pioneers for making Scooters since ages in India. Now they are getting back into the scooter segment which they exited a few years back. The first scooter from Bajaj would be a Electric scooter. An avid reader of MotorWorldIndia from Pune has sent us some exclusive spy shots of what could be the first Electric Scooter from Bajaj.
It may be recalled that Rajiv Bajaj had confirmed the Re-entry of the Bajaj brand into the scooter segment and had also hinted towards the electric scooter to be the first model rolling out. Bajaj’s range of all-electric two-wheelers will be developed and sold under the ‘Urbanite’ brand. Getting back into the petrol scooter segment would be a big task for Bajaj considering the market share ruled by Honda, TVS, Hero MotoCorp and others, hence directly entering into the Electric Scooter segment makes more sense for the Pune based two wheeler giant. Urbanite products will be positioned as premium offerings competing with the Ather Energy scooters. Bajaj had said it intended to ‘do a Tesla in the two-wheeler space’ with the Urbanite brand. The other key players currently in the Electric Scooter segment Include Ather Energy, Hero Electric, Tork and Okinawa.

As seen from the spy pics the camouflaged scooter does not have a Scilencer (exhaust) confirming it to be an electric one. The reader who spotted the test scooter said “Even tho the scooter is heavily camouflaged the scooter scooter looks proportionate and trendy shod with glossy black alloy wheels. Built quality looks top class to as should be expected from a reputed brand like Bajaj. The Bajaj Electric scooter appears a lot better than the currently available Chinese ones. The test scooter seemed quite nippy and the rider was zipping past Pune traffic with ease.”
There are no technical details available on the Bajaj Electric scooter but we hope and wish that Bajaj gets back the iconic Chetak brand on it. Watch this space as we get you more news on the Bajaj Electric Scooter.
