With the Mini SUV segment getting bigger and bigger with new models coming in the iconic MG brand is also eyeing for its share when it enters India in 2019. The British car maker is busy testing the MG RX5 in India. Our ace sharp shooter Arya Borhade sends us this exclusive video sourced from his friend Ajinkya Gore from Pune.
The MG RX5 spotted is an Left Hand Drive version sporting a full camouflage and was seen doing rounds around Pune a few days back. Now the RX5 is based on the Roewe RX5, which is a sister brand to MG and both of them come under the SAIC (Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation) group. Currently MG sells the RX5 in the Middle East countries making its India debut a sure thing. In India the MG RX5 will mainly rival the Jeep Compass and the Hyundai Creta and the Mahindra XUV 5OO.
The RX5 measures 4,554mm in length making it larger than the Jeep Compass (4,395mm) and the Hyundai Creta (4,270mm) and is very close in length to the Mahindra XUV 5OO (4,585mm). The RX5 comes with a longest wheelbase of 2700mm against Creta (2590mm), Compass (2636mm). RX5 stands at (1719mm) in height against the Creta (1780mm) and the Compass (1640mm). In terms of width the RX5 has 1855mm to it while the Creta (1780mm) and the Compass (1818mm) respectively.
In terms of the design the Roewe RX5 comes with a typical Mini SUV styling with clean lines and body surfaces, wide gtill in the front and slim headlights make it look trendy. The side profile looks a lot like the Volvo XC60 or the XC90 extremely classy. Sides also get roof rails and fiber cladding on the wheel arches along with petal design diamond cut alloys. The tail comes with a sloping boot lid and sharp designed slim tail lights and looks a lot like the BMW X5. The RX5 overall looks extremely sporty and trendy.
For the transmission options the RX5 has two motors to choose from a 1.5 Liter Turbo Petrol and a 2.0 Liter Diesel on the list. The petrol engine has 169PS of power and 269Nm of torque to it while the Diesel heart pumps out 221PS of power and 350Nm of torque. The petrol version has a 7-speed Dual Clutch transmission option while the Diesel comes with a 6-speed manual transmission. And yes you also have an All Wheel Drive option on the RX5. The Roewe RX5 is also available in electric versions (Plugin Hybrid)and also happens to hold the record of being the 1st Internet Car in 2016 along with e-commerce giant Alibaba.
