The Piaggio Group has just launched the Aprilia Shiver 900 and the Dorsoduro 900 in the Indian market. The motorcycles will be exclusively available at the Motoplex showrooms spread across the cities of Pune, Chennai, Kochi, Bangalore, and Hyderabad. These two new superbikes will join the existing superbikes portfolio of the Tuono and RSV4 in India. The Aprilia Shiver 900 is a naked street motorcycle, while the Aprilia Dorsoduro 900 is a off road motorcycle meant to take on the likes of the Triumph Tiger series.
Mr. Stefano Pelle, CEO and Managing Director, Piaggio Vehicles Private Limited (India), said, “It is our constant effort at Piaggio Group to make the Aprilia brand more accessible to the patrons in the country, with these superbikes – the Aprilia Shiver and Dorsoduro – we plan to appeal to the Aprilia enthusiast. These superbikes reflect the racing heritage of the brand and the riding experience is unmatched by any other product in the similar category.”
The Aprilia Shiver 900 is powered by a 900cc V-twin motor that develops 95 PS and 90 Nm of max power and torque figures. The new motor gets a longer stroke over the previous 750cc motor at 67.4mm while the bore is unchanged at 92mm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The Aprilia Dorsoduro 900 also gets the same engine and transmission. The company says that the new motor provides better low end and mid-range responses over the previous generation 750cc motor, while also complying to Euro-IV emission norms.
The Aprilia Shiver 900 is based on a mixed steel trellis and aluminium plates frame and gets features like a 4.3-inch TFT display with an optional Aprilia Multimedia Platform (AMP) kit, traction control system and ride by wire technology. The Aprilia Dorsoduro 900 on the other hand gets features like two channel ABS system and 3 riding modes – Sport, Touring and Rain which adjusts the throttle responsiveness by changing ECU maps. In addition, both the bikes are also equipped with a new, 540 grams lighter Kayaba front fork and lighter three-spoked rims.
