BMW celebrates the 50th Birthday of ‘M’
BMW M which is the car marquee’s high-performance car division turns 50. To celebrate this BMW has introduced two special versions of the M3 and M4 high-performance models. These would be called as Edition 50 Jahre BMW M, the special versions of the 2023 BMW M3 and M4 come with a host of specialised elements to make them exclusive compared to the standard M models. The special BMW M3 and M4 models come with a distinctive BMW motorsport logo in place of the signature brand roundel.
The Special Edition M will go up for sale in various markets like China, US, Canada and Europe. Buyers can choose from colour options such as Carbon Black, Brands Hatch Grey, Imola Red, Macao Blue, and San Marino Blue in Europe. For China, the BMW M4 gets Fire Orange and Stratus Grey colour options. Other special design elements include edition-exclusive forged wheels and a carbon-fibre front splitter. Each of these special models also comes with a range of standard-issue M Performance parts and a special matching suitcase too.
For the Indian market the German carmaker will be launching 10 special edition M models. BMW is yet to reveal exactly which of the M and M Sport models will get the special treatement for India.
For the US and Canada markets body colours include Cinnabar Red, Techno Violet, Deep Interlagos Blue, Fire Orange III and Limerock Grey. The automaker has said that it will make only 500 units of the special edition M3. Production of these cars are slated to commence in July this year.
On May 24, 1972 a partnership agreement for setting up the BMW Motorsport GmbH was implemented. While the first car to sport an M badge was the iconic BMW M1 that was designed by Paul Bracq and Giorgetto Giugiaro. These M1’s were produced in limited numbers of only 456 units.
