Carberry announces complete V twin 1000cc engine and transmission setup

It is well known that Carberry Motorcycles, initially based out of Australia had moved to Bhilai, Madhya Pradesh and have been working on Royal Enfields day in and day out, customising them and their engines. We had even reported recently how the brand is developing a V-twin 1000cc engine based out of a Royal Enfield 500cc mill.

Now, recently, the company has confirmed that it is releasing the complete running engine which includes the primary drive and the transmission. The exhaust system is not part of the announcement as it is very much dependent on the frame on which the engine and transmission is likely to sit. To further add to the excitement, Carberry has even announced that complete bikes carrying this engine and transmission combo shall arrive later this year.

Carberry has priced these engines at INR 4,96,000 ex-factory while freight, handling and taxes are extra. As far as export pricing is concerned, it will bear a slight warranty surcharge, higher handling charge but no GST at the company’s end. In order to order the engine, customers need to pay atleast 50% deposit. The waiting period will be approximately 4-7 months depending on how early the customers make it to the waiting list.

The list of changes made by Carberry to support the powerplant includes a new seven plate clutch which has the primary chain strengthened, a 5-speed transmission, hydraulic lifters and a heavier crankshaft. A heavy duty starter motor is also includes in thelist of modifications. The oil capacity of the 1000cc engine stands at 3.7 litres. In order to protect the engine cases from wear and tear, the lifters and oil pumps have been moved into their separate housings.

Carberry has ensured that the engine develops a linear power delivery throughout the range and is not associated with the vibrations which the regular Enfields are accepted to have. The entire engine head is based on the Unit Construction Engine idea mastered by Royal Enfield.

Currently, the engine is not street legal yet and is meant for existing homologated Carberry motorcycles for export and for display purposes. Carberry plans to work closely with ARAI to clear the legal certifications.
