2018 Jeep Wrangler Breaks Cover, Headed for India
The 2018 Jeep Wrangler has been revealed at the ongoing LA Auto Show. The Wrangler has been one the most well known models from the Jeep family and with this new version Jeep plans to take the legendary lineage ahead.The 2018 Wrangler retains the basic Willis Jeep design element.
The New Wrangler is built on an all new platform that is lighter and larger and Jeep tells us this platform is one of the best they have for serious off-roading. The biggest change visible is on the face where the headlight and the grill that now gets wider 7 slats and looks prominent, now looks a lot like the legendary CJ5 – The Original Jeep. Round headlights look neat and add more aggressive brute look to the face. These slats are slightly at an angle to increase the aerodynamics. The headlights get full LED glow and the Day Time Running lights (DRL) are fitted into the wide flat fenders. The headlight assembly also has DRLs in them.
The typical Jeep flared fenders now get larger and wider on the 2018 Wrangler. The fenders get vents on them and an all new design element. The overall design is distinctive yet very Jeep like and the Wrangler now even gets a spoiler at the rear. The overall design is a bit raked towards the rear which includes the windshield, this is to aid the overall aerodynamics. The rear of the 2018 Wrangler is also fully redone. The spare wheel is now placed at a lot lower position, the rear gets more contoured and the lights are now all LED. The brute SUV now also gets a reverse camera.
The Wrangler drives on 17-inch wheels or 18 inch wheels on the Sahara variant. The Rubicon gets slightly different design fenders and also gets metal bumper that has removable ends to offer better approach and entry angles and the iconic red cast tow hooks.
On the inside the 2018 Jeep Wrangler gets an all new cabin with fit and finish now getting a lot more premium. The dash gets an all color LCD Touch screen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Satellite Navigation and also Satellite Radio. The all new instrument cluster also gets a large LCD screen reading out the vital information. The cabin area now gets larger and the manual adjust seats can be ordered in leather or fabric as per the model. The dashboard can also be ordered in leather wrap or silver or red option. The Rubicon gets a special red interior and exterior option on it. Extended wheelbase now helps in extending the rear seat space. The Wrangler would be available in soft and hard top versions. You also get a powered roof option that can be folded completely. The doors can also be taken off easily when needed.
There has been a lot of weight reduction in the overall weight of the Wrangler.Many body panels are now made of Aluminum instead of steel, the tail gate is made of light weight magnesium and is skinned with an aluminum body panel. 4-Wheel Drive options would be standard across all models and variants.The Wrangler gets diff locks that can now be activated by an electronic switch on the central console and a button to disconnect the sway bars for extra articulation when needed. The 4-wheel-drive high and 4-wheel-drive low mode along with a new 4-wheel-drive auto mode that works based off sensors that measure traction slip are also on the package.
The Wrangler also comes with skid plates both in the front and rear along with built in tow hooks. The front and rear bumpers are both winch ready. The Jeep Wrangler has 276 mm of ground clearance with a 44 degree approach and a 37 degree departure angle. The Jeep Wrangler Rubicon will also be offered with a first ever 33-inch tyre package on a 17-inch off-road wheel. The Jeep Wrangler will also have a water fording capacity of 30 inches.
Powering this beast would be a 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine that features mild-hybrid technology for the first time ever. The Wrangler will also come powered with the 3.6-litre V6 naturally aspirated Pentastar engine, which will be the top spec petrol model. On the diesel versions the Wrangler will be powered by a 2.2-litre diesel engine along with a 3.0 liter Diesel engine option. The transmission would be taken care by an all New 8-Speed automatic unit and there wont be a manual transmission on option.
