Honda CR-V rated Top Safety Pick+ by IIHS-USA

honda cr-v

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, a non-profit dedicated to reducing highway crash deaths, injuries, etc, based in Virginia, USA, has chosen the 2017 Honda CR-V to be awarded with the Top Safety Pick+ rating. This is the highest award given to a vehicle by the Institution, after evaluating crash scores, headlights, and front crash prevention systems. The 2017 CR-V joined it’s predecessor, the 2016 model, with a Good score in all crash tests, even the small overlap test which is considered fairly difficult.

The 2017 Honda CR-V comes equipped with multiple active safety and driver assistance features, especially forward collision warning, automatic emergency brakes, road departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control, as well as lane keeping assist, on everything but the base LX trim. It earned the highest score, that is, Superior, in the institute’s front crash prevention test, as avoided 12 and 25 mph collisions.

The 2017 Honda CR-V received an Acceptable rating due to its optional LED headlights, with regards to the new test designed to evaluate the effectiveness of the headlights of a vehicle. Although, the standard halogen headlights on certain models earned them a simple Marginal rating. The child seat anchors were the only other parameter rated as Acceptable as opposed to the rest being rated Good.

The 2017 Honda CR-V joins the ranks of other Small SUVs that have been awarded with the Top Safety Pick+ rating, such as the 2017 Nissan Rogue, the 2017 Toyota RAV4, the 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander, the 2017 Mazda CX-3, and the 2017 Subaru Forester.

A car cannot qualify for the Top Safety Pick+ rating if it has not received an Advanced or Superior rating with respect to the front crash prevention test, as well as an Acceptable or Good score in the headlight effectiveness evaluation. Therefore, it would not be wrong to make the assumption that, if not for the optional LED lights, the 2017 Honda CR-V would not have managed to achieve the 2017 Top Safety Pick+ rating.
