2016 Maruti Alto 800 Facelift Spied
Maruti is planning to launch an updated version of the Alto 800 in the coming weeks. The Alto was the bestselling car in the world last year.
Growing competition and an urge to keep up to date has forced Maruti plan for an update for its bestselling model, the Alto 800. The car that was spotted featured a new front grille which looks weirdly similar to the 1st generation Ford Figo. There is a new hexagonal grille on the lower part while the upper area features a tiny lip grille. The Suzuki logo is now placed in between these two grilles on the bumper unlike the previous car where it was placed on the upper grille. The headlights feature black treatment along with orange turn indicators. The front of the car looks much more sportier now while the rear is carried over unchanged.
The Maruti Alto 800 is expected to carry over its engines which means it will get the 800cc engine that develops 47 BHP and the 1.0-litre K-series engine that develops 67 BHP. Both engines are mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox but only the bigger engined car will get the AMT automatic transmission. Expect a better fuel economy figure just to give it an edge over its competition. The interior is expected to remain largely the same but expect a few add-ons on the Alto K10 variant to separate it out from the lesser powered Alto.
The Maruti Alto competes with the Renault Kwid and the upcoming Datsun Redi-GO. The Renault Kwid is powered by a 800cc engine that develops 53 BHP and is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The Kwid though will be soon available with a 1.0-litre petrol motor mated to an AMT auto gearbox to take on the Alto K10 AMT. The Datsun Redi-GO on the other hand will be launching soon on the 1st July 2016 and will share all engine and transmission options with the Renault Kwid. It is expected to be priced below its French cousin and could be a game changer in the entry level hatchback segment.
